Science Fair Projects Kids Will Enjoy Part Seven – Static Electricity

Here is part seven of our Science Fair projects Kids Will Enjoy about static Electricity. In this experiment we are going to see how to objects that are negatively laden are attracted to objects that are positively laden. Once the objects are no longer negatively laden, they are not drawn by a positively laden object any more.

The case of the dancing paper dolls:

What you need for your experiment:

Two books
A glass disk
A metal plate
Two books
Tissue paper dolls about 3cm tall (cut any way you prefer as long as they not too big)
A woolen cloth

How to do your experiment:

Cut out your paper dolls (about 3-4)
Place two books a little way apart with the metal plate between them
Place the glass disk over them to be over the metal plate
Place the paper dolls in the metal plate
What happens when you place the paper dolls on the metal plate under the glass disk?
Now rub the glass disk with the woolen cloth for a few minutes
What happens?
Why does it happen?

By rubbing the glass disk with the woolen cloth it is loaded with electron to make it negative
Now the disk draws the positively laden paper dolls and they are also loaded
Now they drop down and the metal plate draws the electrons from them, once again making them positive
Now the glass draws them again and so the dance continues

I think this can be quite a good display for your friends to admire!

In this experiment we are going to see how to a spoon, laden with static electricity, will draw puffed wheat or rice to it. Opposite to a negative and a negative “pushing” each other away as in our previous example.

The case of the plastic spoon and the puffed wheat or rice:

What you will need for this experiment:

A bowl of puffed wheat or rice
A plastic teaspoon
A wooly sweater

How to do your experiment:

Without doing anything to the spoon, keep it just above the bowl of puffed wheat or rice.
What happens?
Rub the spoon on your sweater for a few minutes to load it with the extra electrons until it is negative.
Now hold the spoon just above the bowl of puffed wheat or rice.
What happens?
Keep the spoon there.
Why does it happen?
What happens after a short while?
Why does it happen?

Here is part five of our Science Fair projects Kids Will Enjoy about static Electricity. In this experiment we are going to see how to objects that are negatively laden “push” each other away. Opposite to a negative and positive drawing each other.

Here are our science fair projects kids will enjoy:

The case of the hostile balloons!

What you will need:

2 Balloons
2 pieces of string
A wooly sweater

How to do this experiment:

Blow up both balloons as much as possible without bursting them
Tie them with the strings
Rub both on your sweater for a few minutes
What happens?
Why do you think it happens?
What happens to the balloon closest to your sweater?

After you have rubbed the balloons on your sweater, they are both negatively laden with electrons they withdrew from your sweater. Because the sweater has given off the electrons it is now positively laden, this is why the balloon closest to your sweater sticks to your sweater while the two balloons drift far apart. So, what does that tell you about two objects that are negative or positively laden?

Cool Science Fair Projects – The Power Of Growing Flowers

This is one of our cool science fair projects that show the strength of growing plants.

What you need for this science fair project:

A sheet of clear plastic
A healthy potted plant
A box of paper clips
2 Small boxes just a bit higher than the plant

How to do this cool science fair project:

Take your healthy potted plant and place it on a windowsill that gets enough sun.
Now you place the two boxes on each side of the plant taking care not to shade the plant.
Lay the plastic across the boxes and let it hang down the two sides of the boxes.
Make two chains that are identical with the paper clips
Lay these chains over the clear plastic so that it hangs down the sides of the boxes.
Arrange them evenly and mark their positions on the boxes.
Now you care for the plant as normal.
Check and mark the positions of the chains from time to time

What has happened?

Make note of what happens?
Measure the markings as they move up the boxes.
Why do the chains move up?

Explanation:

This experiment shows us how strong plants are. As the plant grows it pushes the plastic and thus the chains up. Now you can see how plants can be so incredibly strong and grow through blocks of cement and why weeds push through the sidewalk cracks to reach the light (Plants need light to stay alive and grow)

Easy Science For Kid

Getting easy science for a kid is easier than you may think. You can teach your kid science in the home everyday with normal household goods and stuff you keep in the house. Make it a game and the kids learn easy science without even realizing it.

Easy Science For Kid – How fat is certain kinds of things:

This is an easy experiment to find out which foods contain a lot of fat and which ones does not contain a lot of fat. Of course this is not a complete science fair experiment, but only and indication of an idea. What you need for this easy science for kid:

A sheet of paper
A pencil
Margarine
Lemon
Potato chips
Peanut butter
Honey
Cream

How to do this easy science for kid:

Draw six small circles on your piece of paper
Write down the name of each of your food as mentioned above under one of the circles so that you have one circle marking for each of the food stuff you have. You can of course use more if you want to do a little more.
Now you have to rub a bit of each kind of food onto the circle marked with that kind of food’s name so you will know which food is on which circle.
Leave it for about fifteen minutes.
Now you have to examine the paper on both sides.

Why do you think it happened?

You will notice that some of the spots are dry. Some of the others will be greasy and the spot will be spreading. Do you know why this happened? Well, both water and fat make a spot on paper by filling in the spaces between the fibers of the paper. When the water in the spots made by foods with water evaporates, the spot becomes dry. The spots made by the fat however, do not dry as the fat globules can only be broken down by soap or some kind of solvent such as ether. For this reason the fat spot remains and spreads while the water spot disappears
