Plants Releasing Water Science Fair Project
Where does all the water go that a plant absorbs? Do plants release water? This is the start of this very easy science fair project that is suitable for very small kids. What you need for your plants releasing water science fair project:
- One small, healthy potted plant
- A clear plastic bag
- Some tape or string
- A note book
- A pencil
- A camera for your photos
- Water
How to do your experiment:
- Start by watering the plant thoroughly
- Now you place the plastic bag over the green leafy part of the plant and secure it around the stem with your tape or string.
- Make very sure that you do not damage the plant
- Now you place the plant in a sunny spot
- Check on your plant every hour, make notes of what you see and take photos for your display

Explanation:
The leaves of the plant have tiny openings called stomata in them, mostly at the bottom of the leaves. When the plant produces food it takes in air from the stomata and then it releases the air again as well. In the same way water is also released form these stomata. This is the water vapor you see condensation on the inside of the plastic bag in the form of droplets.
It is this process that is the reason for the high humidity in a jungle.
